Ars Somnium

Sevenfold be the sorcerer's gateways to dreaming (each gate is first reached [i] and then crossed [ii] although not necessarily consecutively):

Manual Setup — [i] Settle the outcome, 'mano a mano'. The Second Attention is only awoken by our conscious intention. Find your hands in a dream and look away briefly before returning to them intently. Rinse and repeat; this stabilizes one's nocturnal 'double'.

[ii] Fall asleep while remaining lucid. Having forged your energy body, you must learn how to use it. Take baby steps. Will yourself into action. Attempt to interact with ethereal objects.

Nesting Instinct —  [i] Once proficiency is achieved, start dreaming within dreams. Master awakening from deeper and deeper theta states. One can also focus on ancillary items in order to transition toward different dream scenes.

[ii] Consistent years of practice should pique the interest of Inorganic Beings. Project confidence and they'll surely rally to you. Avoid fear at all costs. Try tracking Inorganic scouts back to their own abodes. Those who play their cards right shall gain allies who can heighten our awareness more than ever thought possible.

Dreamer & Dreamed — [i] At some point you'll come face to face with your actual sleeping self. Your two Attentions are now merging. The energetic double is Being completed, thus does it begin touching upon everyday reality. It's imperative that you develop a method of confirming without doubt that this is indeed your physical form. Heed Don Juan's advice and observe everything here "with great care and curiosity".

[ii] Beware of rational mind or else end up trapped in superfluous minutiae. Rely instead on irrational abandon so that your perception doesn't linger too long on any particular detail. Fluidity is of utmost importance.

Sightseeing & Sharing — [i] Use the 'dreamt' to visit familiar locales. Go back to the same spot a few times and try to verify what you see there later on during waking life. Follow up by visiting places that are less known, including situations outside mundane experience.

[ii] Enter the dream of another dreamer, or occupy a mutual dream together. Such feats require bounteous reserves of personal power, which are usually obtained through abstinence or energy exchanges with one's allies.

Bridging Gaps — [i] Switch out the aforementioned double with your material embodiment. The double can be sent ahead and exert its pull upon physicality. Transposition becomes possible. Practice astral projection at its finest. Most people won't be able to tell the difference between either manifestation anyway.

[ii] Split in twain, catapult into unknown realities. There you may temporarily inhabit the viewpoint of an otherworldly entity. While we're prone to impute human qualities on such alien experiences, just gaze directly (rather passively) at those energies, and witness as vast mysteries unravel!

Spirit Animals — [i] Sometimes when we traverse outlandish dreamscapes, natural obstacles arise. During these times, it's not uncommon for the double to react instinctively by assuming a feral physique: birds, felines, foxes and wolves are common totems.

[ii] Moreover, once shamans become comfortable enough in 'beast mode', they can actually awaken elsewhere as animals. This is a dangerous threshold that one ought to cross only if utterly confident and after much training.

Tonal & Nagual — [i] Duality is breached for good as both the First and Second Attention are unified. In a manner of speaking, it's like 'dreaming awake'. This is Seeing proper, since sufficient Impeccability has been cultivated, and it's ripe for harvesting. The dreamer beholds daily life through the eyes of the dreamt.

[ii] The island of one's Tonal is now flooded by elements flowing from the Nagual's oceanic emanations: Assemblage Point, luminous cocoons, power plants, Rolling Force, Voladores, etc. You might even hear the Voice of Seeing itself. Whatever you do, don't tell the uninitiated about these things (because they'll probably have you committed)!

The Cricket's Call

"According to the Aztec language, the word Chapultepec means the following: Chapul or chapulin means “cricket” and Tepec “hill.” Therefore, the Aztec word Chapultepec must be defined as, “The Hill of the Cricket.”

In ancient Rome, during the time of the Caesars, the cricket was sold in golden cages at a very high price. In Mexico City, at the Museum of Anthropology and History there exists a very  interesting picture related to the teachings that were taught to the Aztec Nobility and Priests in their secret temples.

In this picture, we see two individuals floating over the Hill of Chapultepec. A chirping cricket appears at the summit of the hill.  Next to this scene, a floating human face appears; from the mouth emerges two waves of light which symbolize the chirping of the cricket, or in other words, the symbol for the monotonous and sharp sound of the cricket that the two people who are floating over the foothill must produce in order to penetrate into the temple."

The Cricket's Call

Mid-August somnolence;
Cicadas seethe by sunlight
But at nighttime, crickets chirp.

Nocturnal chorus basking
In the heatwave aftermath.
Waking wizards for witching hour ...

Roused astral body astir within interzone —
Early morning moth latch onto silver cord
And raise this wretched man above his foibles!

Unladen from Earthly burden
Mortal coil may be transmuted
To enact any empyrean alchemy.

Peter Pan flies to Neverland again
(applaud so that Tinker Bell revives).
Old Jiminy will attest to our regained virtues!

“The first problem for all of us, men and women, is not to learn, but to unlearn.”
~ Gloria Steinem

“The most necessary part of learning is unlearning our errors.”

~ Zeno

"Where spirituality is concerned,
learning is all about unlearning -
unlearning almost everything you’ve ever been taught.
It’s all about unlearning and listening."
~ Anthony de Mello

Let's start by not taking ourselves too damn seriously.
Loosen up — crack knuckles and neck — stretch limbs ...

Confound it! This human mode is dumbfounded!
We spend so much time learning to identify
With this or that, him, her, and them.

Where rests the primal shape of one's face?
Heretofore any final form escapes our gaze.
Switch animal totems as a player trades out masks.
Strive for fluidity when it comes to sorcerers' tasks.

Static objects don't exist. Even ideals barely persist.
Stagnation awaits those who can't adapt to change.
Standing still within eye of whirlwind seems strange.
Stirs it not thy divine stars? Venusian women; men of Mars?
Starseeds wake, ascend to night. Gnostic knowing, out of sight!

Shift below you must, lest your silver cord gather dust.
Then take flight as a raven to look upon lesser auras.
The predator blends into background; praying prey ignore us.
Though myths may vary, a lot are attributed to Apollodorus.

Transparency serves an arranger behind these scenes.
Unless amorphousness flows, anthropomorphism anchors souls.
Undoing such damnation involves enacting fictive figures.

Let's end without wondering whether or not it all makes sense.
Latter years are needed to refine singular self into a peerless:

Hear It Read Aloud by the Author:

Nagual ItzQuauhtli Says...

"The power that governs the destiny of all living beings is called the Eagle, not because it is an eagle or has anything to do with an eagle, but because it appears to the seer as an immeasurable jet-black eagle, standing erect as an eagle stands, its height reaching to infinity. As the seer gazes on the blackness that the Eagle is, four blazes of light reveal what the Eagle is like. The first blaze, which is like a bolt of lightning, helps the seer make out the contours of the Eagle's body. There are patches of whiteness that look like an eagle's feathers and talons. A second blaze of lightning reveals the flapping, wind-creating blackness that looks like an eagle's wings. With the third blaze of lightning the seer beholds a piercing, inhuman eye. And the fourth and last blaze discloses what the Eagle is doing.

The Eagle is devouring the awareness of all the creatures that, alive on earth a moment before and now dead, have floated to the Eagle's beak, like a ceaseless swarm of fireflies, to meet their owner, their reason for having had life. The Eagle disentangles these tiny flames, lays them flat, as a tanner stretches out a hide, and then consumes them; for awareness is the Eagle's food.

The Eagle, that power that governs the destinies of all living things, reflects equally and at once all those living things.  There is no way, therefore, for man to pray to the Eagle, to ask favors, to hope for grace, the human part of the Eagle is too insignificant to move the whole.

It is only from the Eagle's actions that a seer can tell what it wants. The Eagle, although it is not moved by the circumstances of any living thing, has granted a gift to each of those beings. In its own way and right, any one of them,  if it so desires, has the power to keep the flame of awareness, the power to disobey the summons to die and be consumed. Every living thing has been granted the power, if it so desires, to seek an opening to freedom and to go through it. It is evident to the seer who sees the opening, and to the creatures that go through it, that the Eagle has granted that gift in order to perpetuate awareness.

For the purpose of guiding living things to that opening, the Eagle created the Nagual. The Nagual is a double being to whom the rule has been revealed. Whether it be in the form of a human  being, an  animal, a  plant, or  anything  else  that  lives, the  Nagual  by  virtue  of  its doubleness is drawn to seek that hidden passageway."

Nagual ItzQuauhtli Says...

One's Tonal is transient, fragile
Imperfect and limited
Interior character deciding exterior destiny

However, it can be tempered
Through directed Dreams
As well as all actions recapped

Dumbstruck by silent knowledge
Warriors topple their self-importance
Then master awareness with sober insight

Remember always that Death stalks us constantly
But beyond every Tonal thrives an enigmatic Nagual
Wrapped within layers of energetic abstraction

Many misnomers exist for such sublime states
But words matter
little when matters meet with BIG CRUNCH
Jettison rational thought and float ever aloof

Cultural language patterns constrain Spirit
So overthrow those foreign installations
Hear The Eagle's emanations expressed by Seeing's non-verbal voice

Castaneda On Stilts

 Castaneda On Stilts

Cranes on the skyline
Phosphorous glow of the street lamps like stars
Traffic for silence

You see the UNSEEN and you hear the UNHEARD

The voice of each thought unrelenting
Extraneous description abounds
To which does the subject surrender?

WORDS have more power than we dare to FEAR

Superimposed comes the weight of our meaning
Memory amounts to mentality (in a limited scope)
Blinded to the realm of impossibility

Do not question the METHOD—simply study the MADNESS

This is the heart of Not-Doing
Acting, Dancing, Singing
All integral parts of Stalking the Dreamer

During every WAKING moment of the STILLNESS

Controlled folly at its finest:
Behaviour alters mind and mind brings forth behaviour
So state your purpose with conviction

For unbending INTENT realigns the Eagle's EMANATIONS

Thus, it is the intensity and integrity (indeed the frequency)
Of one's personal Tonal
Which determines

What aspects of the NAGUAL will become accessible to a WARRIOR

Because Warriors must aspire to all-encompassing awareness

Until the day their death arrives...
