Meta-Poetics vol. 4: Remission Restatement

Meta-Poetics vol. 4: Remission Restatement

The professed goals of this present iteration of Anti-Poetry are hereby chartered as follows:

1. To exercise the English language to its full extent; exhausting every conceivable coinage within its written corpus while simultaneously crossing borders into neighboring lexicons like Franglais & Latin

2. To bring archaic and defunct terminology back into circulation, chiefly as celebratory "camp". Also to plumb every possible meaning for any taken term.

3. The recapitulation of rhyming schemes will be utilized for the purpose of introducing variations on classical meters and themes.

4. Challenging the normalcy of self-centered auteurs is imperative. There's an unspoken distinction between those who work only for personal benefit and anyone who actually advances our overall art.

5. Have no fear about fielding neologisms. Wright out original witticisms to further ludic logic.

6. Instill in writers and instruct readers on novel ways of verbal expression, especially regarding metaphysical impression.

7. Demystify poetics while demonstrating the sway that language often has us under due to unconscious tendencies.

8. Turn every old adage and proverb upon its head. Leave no stanza unturned!

9. Inject Etymology, Linguistics, Philology, and Semiotics to revitalize versification. Incorporate technology, for instance:
Right Justification.

10. Raise the bar for future generations by letting loose unmatched fléchettes!

Pierian Papers

Pierian Papers

Got reams of them!

e.g.:
[ The peons could not produce enough quires of papyri for such a prolific Pharaoh. ]

Just lying, strewn all over the temple turf;
Haphazard ramblings
And bizarre babblings,
Which connote more than the sum
Of those notes.

Though it's a misconception
That everything an Artiste
Commits to canvas, parchment,
Or record is worth its weight
In the mirth of Midas.

Genius is naught but misnomer
Derived from Djinn
Who might grant our wishes
Yet with certain strings attached.
Don't be overeager like Faust.

i.e.:
[ The Lord of Hosts loosed famine, plague, and war upon the people  (only to end up surrounded by ghosts). ]

Exegesis:

  • critical explanation or interpretation of a text or portion of a text.

Exegesis In Exile

Admonitions, always advice and additions

But not in this one! No siree Bob . . .

Would sooner lilt and bow

Before Her Highness The Queen

Than start another brannigan

Leading into that again.

Revisions, endless rewrites and editions

Yet never herewith. Negatory!

Will bend knee and kowtow

Facing Her Maya so obscene

Then play through with a mulligan

Although it may gain disdain.

Repetitions, turgid rhymes and renditions

Even at present; all or nothing.

Lowering beaten brow

She shall lift off in the next scene

Thus smooth-talk plus shenanigan

Feign a tatty way to ordain!

Oh hi there future breed!
Canst thou even still read?
If not hush now and hearken,
Whilst these pages bleed:

When thy senses darken
Thou shalt feel forsaken.
Quiring quite a quandary;
Core liable to break-in.

Let us traverse the boundary
Betwixt forgery and foundry.
Our hands join in legerdemain
Marked with ashes (very powdery).

So catch a lion by its mane.
"Asa Nisi Masa" — insane!
Oft she calls her Magick gnome,
"Asa Nisi Masa" — refrain!

Better on paper be the Anti-Poem.
Whoredom of dollars leads to gloam.
Whole worlds are defiled through greed.
Put those etymons to rest; shalom!

Amisit Musa

"As the Spirit wanes, the Form appears." ~ Charles Bukowski

Amisit Musa

1st Canto

Amused by the Ego
Striving for validation.
Quo vadis?
Self-importance shall follow...

Inspiration grips one rarely;
~ Amisit Musa ~
Trapped within convention
What's the use?

Bemused when the Id
Employs Eros or Thanatos.
Querencia vincit!
Threats of displeasure ring hollow.

Expiration warns one fairly:
~ Amisit Musa ~

Suckered by your Superego
What a ruse!

2nd Canto

Calliope come, bring forth rampaging epics.

Clio's confounded by false history books.

Erato enrapture us in beauty and mercy.

Euterpe entrance us with melodic flutes.

Melpomene mirrors our most tragic moments.

Polymnia's praises are imprinted in hymnals.

Terpsichore traipses around in a tutu.

Thalia thinks this all to be quite droll.

Urania's unaware of anything under asters.

Meanwhile Mnemosyne muses, as only a mother is able.

Another sleepless night,
Course failed at school,
Day missed at work.

Casino fruit machines,
Dog and horse racetracks,
Barely compare to the blue bird.

Instant gratification
From a pleasant chime;
Irresistible urge to connect.

It's all or nothing on the line ...
What's trending now?
Who's hashtag tops the polls?

Follow those who reciprocate.
Cut loose the dead weight.
Hurrah for verified accounts!

Cursed be the white whale
Whenever Le Tuit does fail.

Viscosity

Viscosity

Everybody knows a blustering windbag

Who constantly flaps flaccid gums
Yet says nothing of any consequence at all.

Who'll slurp clear whatever smear

Stains the moist underbelly
Of outlying nether regions.

Such a butt-munch

Pulls each punch
And loves to gargle lumpy lyonnaise.

Even when sorrowful
The boor heehaws
Absentmindedly

While colossal seesaws

Lumber noisily
Against a fancy backdrop.

Often faux-furry

They gesticulate rather than articulating
Amidst brackish backwaters.

Fetid phrases have been found

To be teeming with crawling truisms
In the oily runoff of simpleton sentences.

Vociferous as well as viscous;

They're very deaf to their own verbosity
Which lacks both value and vigor!

The Art of The Anti-Poem

The Art of The Anti-Poem

Noetry?
No entry!
Ante up
Antique cup.

Augurs won't serve
Against word's swerve.
Dig into your nerve or
Die indignant sans ferveur.

Jigsaw jostled out of place
Jaw drops from your face
Tripping over acid lace
Time to move on final phase ...

Corkscrew twist another phrase here
Comes crime and meet her cousin grace;
Committed to atone for tones you don't hear:
Catalytic contemplation, ought become a catchy craze!

What Be It, Anti-Poetry?

What Be It, Anti-Poetry?

When petite-bourgeois Poets hear of it, they cringe.
Could there be a confrontational connotation?

For surely the prefix: Anti- indicates taking a stance
Against something or other. So why bother?

In actuality, Anti-Poetry is a 'Self-defeating' exercise
Whereby the writer may fly; freed from gravitas and vanitas.

Like transitional mutations during the course of evolution
It forms a missing link that bridges archaic and neological usage.

Novel species shall arise from said proverbial soup
Displayed—in memoriam—at wax poetry museums

Archetypal feathers from an archaeopteryx
Will give wings to flightless bards whom at present are apterous!

STFU Grammar Nazi!

"These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings."

~ Colossians 2:22

"Philosophy is a battle against the bewitchment of our intelligence by means of language.

The limits of my language means the limits of my world."
~ Ludwig Wittgenstein

"For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice."

~ T.S. Eliot

STFU Grammar Nazi!

Language evolves through improvisation;
Lending itself to radical rearticulation.
Clarity may be the currency of communication BUT
Ludic Telos underlines its alteration!

If Grammar Nazis had their way
Poiesis would be impossible.
They wish words would never sway
Yet such changes are unstoppable...

Neologisms are loosed into our lexicon
So often, we update dictionaries annually.
Ebonics plagues many an interaction online
Scratching up turntables manually.

You see, a sound isn't the same as what it represents.
Even the letter isn't strict in any sense.
Leave rules to sorry fools stripped of innocence.
Expressions may fit situations (it depends)!

Knock off a chip of the old _____ ?

Irregular expressions make crowds balk

With more drama than The Toccata by Johann Sebastian Bach

Facing such absurdity one cannot help but laugh

Mutating rhymes twist tongues so none can scoff

You were given no choice, now hats must doff

Enlist and learn these skills from this verbal prof

Neither free will nor destiny are worth speaking of

Whatever shall ye do when push comes to shove?

Only wizened fools get it right; aye there's the rub!

The Tyranny of Words

The Tyranny of Words

De Facto benefactor of every actor
Meaning outweighs these sounds by tons not pounds
Whether Pope, President, or Professor — Etymology is the emperor's undresser

Across genetic world wars are waged for memetic primacy; prim petty piracy
Like order emerging from chaos, ideals furnish inertia with gloss
Voices of authority drown out the majority

Images make transparent things more apparent
But lies oft go unreported by what a Sign has purported
Wherever a book, joke, phrase, or essay has vexed (check your specs) delve into subtext

Government, media, and religion all continue to endorse neo-colonial discourse
Bourgeois bard irresponsible, cannot act as lingual constable
This psychobabble hangs too high over their vocal rabble

Principia Poetica

"It is Language which speaks"
~ Stéphane Mallarmé

Principia Poetica

Poetry lacking controversy is like a story without conflict: boring!

Poesy acts like a mirror, which reflects the souls of its readers
so the less that people understand themselves
the less theyll understand this inner dimension of poetics.

The best poems touch upon powerful, universal themes
tapped from our collective unconscious;
themes that transcend these scripted tautologies.

Some poems are far greater than the sum of their words.

Whereas we Poets are mere conduits...
Trance-channelers reveling in ecstasy
graced by our muse’s embrace!
