Keanu-Isms

Author's Note: Written in honor of Keanu Reeves, on his 56th birthday.

Keanu-Isms

Oh most excellent one

Few other stars are equally serious yet fun.

Verily Bertolucci could see the little Buddha in thee.

You brought Bodhi to the breaking point by the sea.

Need for speed taught tough lessons

About skirting dangerous liaisons

Like Count Dracula's evil

&

Advocating for the Devil.

Much ado about nothing adequately fits your critics.

Only Neo can overcome controls outside the Matrix.

Stay vigilant street king;

A scanner sees darkly through everything

But you're no regular Joe

So go Johnny go

From Utah, to Don, then Mnemonic, Constantine, um? And Wick.

You've got plenty of action left—even after that last flick!

Up to snuff on the canon
ever since the series' inception.

Watched a trio of films fashioned after
the literary trilogy, three times, in 3D
(but read every book years before cinematic debut).

Fanboy fawning over fiction
avidly awaits memorabilia and merchandise;
cultural baubles induce idolatrous fascination.

Raised by the capital
as another man-child filled with yearning
for a time that never was in fantasy lands.

"Did you see the new trailer?"
"OMG — its looks amazing!"
"Let's all go watch it on opening night..."

Real life is too boring anyway:
its bland narrative has become predictable.
Around here, there are no superheroes to save the day!

Well looky here, see clear young viewers
Haven't you had enough of prequels, sequels, and remakes?
Don't get your hopes up. Every movie makes its own mistakes...

Roughly the same plot but sporting fresh faces;
script updated to pop and zap
(alongside chic product placements).

Another box office record smashed by a summer blockbuster!
Although who actually gives a crap?
If hype had a flavor—it'd be mustard.

Catching on merely by being overwhelming
Right now in a galaxy real close by
there's a deficiency in reasoning.

Admit it: it's just the mythology of technology
that you're addicted to. Which is why
we criticize, yet always attend anew.

Humanity reveres the image, since it alone evades all-encompassing definitions of itself while still providing thoroughgoing expositions for everything else.

Entire civilizations are fashioned after the cutting edge visions of prophets, because they dare to dream much more vividly than the rest of us combined.

Panoramic vistas overbrim with sheer significance
finding resonance within the eyes of keen beholders.

Pictures in motion captivate our attention and lull intellects
as we forget that cinema shares its esprit with real life.

But then there are those rare occasions when Icon speaks from two mouths; reconciling masculine noumenon to feminine phenomenon...

Amid a recurring interplay of scrumtrulescent young actors.
